Naver Map Starts Directions on Meta AI Glasses, Will Also Work With Google and Samsung Devices
Key points
- Naver Map directions expand to AI glasses
- Available first on Meta's Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta
- Google and Samsung devices are due out within the year
On the 12th, Naver announced that it is extending Naver Map's directions feature to AI glasses. Naver said it is the first domestic map service to support directions through AI glasses. It will be offered first on Meta's Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta, and it plans to link with Google and Samsung intelligent eyewear due out within the year.
The service delivers real-time walking directions on AI glasses while on the move. Techworld News reported that it supports real-time voice guidance, and VentureSquare stressed in its headline that people need to take out their smartphones less often when finding their way. iNews24 put guidance such as "The destination is 50 meters ahead on the left" in its headline.
The outlets' focus differed slightly. AI Times described an AI assistant that gives directions when you talk to your glasses making its debut in a domestic map service. Tech M reported that the strategy is to offer a differentiated map service that goes beyond simple place search and route guidance.
The name for the device also differed. iNews24 and AI Times also used "AI glasses" in Korean (AI 안경), while the other outlets wrote "AI glasses" using the English loanword. The partners named, Meta, Google and Samsung, were the same across coverage.
