LG Electronics unveiled seven Internet of Things devices it developed with Apple at a product launch event in Manhattan, New York, on the 13th (local time). According to Kukmin Ilbo, the products are two outdoor cameras, an indoor camera, a door lock, a doorbell, a thermostat and a temperature sensor.
Chosun Biz outlined the technical makeup. AI that detects conditions indoors and outdoors and controls devices automatically is applied, and the devices work with LG's smart home platform ThinQ and Apple devices such as iPhone and Apple Watch. AI Newspaper (인공지능신문) introduced a security camera using vision AI, a door lock that detects a user's intent to enter, and a thermostat that controls heating and cooling by taking location and weather into account. iNews24 gave usage examples, such as the front door opening automatically when you return home and an iPhone alert when a package arrives.
Outlets describe the launch timing differently. TheElec and EBN reported that it will launch first in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. this year, while Digital Daily wrote that it will roll out in stages starting in North America and the U.K. in December.
Apple's announcements were also covered. iNews24 reported that on the 13th in New York, Apple unveiled a new smart home hub, TV and speaker built around Siri AI, along with the devices co-developed with LG Electronics. Before the unveiling, IT Chosun, citing a Bloomberg report on the 12th, reported that Apple was expected to reveal a smart home hub called "HomeView," and Digital Today, citing Bloomberg and other foreign media reports on the 11th, reported that the actual release is expected in mid-November.
In a separate article, Digital Daily noted that the two companies, once rivals in the smartphone market, have extended their cooperation in TVs, distribution and components into home appliances and living spaces. The article also introduced a forecast that the global smart home market will reach $450.2 billion by 2032.
