AWS Compute Capacity Through 2027 Virtually Sold Out as AI Demand Surges
Key points
- AWS compute capacity for 2026-2027 virtually sold
- Much of the 2028 supply is also reserved
- AI infrastructure demand exceeds expectations
Amazon Web Services (AWS) compute capacity has mostly been sold through 2027 amid surging demand for AI infrastructure. AI Times and Efocus (이포커스) reported that Amazon CEO Andy Jassy described the situation on the 23rd, U.S. time.
According to AI Times, AWS's compute capacity for 2026 and 2027 is virtually all sold. Because AI infrastructure demand has surged beyond expectations, a significant portion of the supply for 2028 is already reserved, it said. Efocus wrote that Jassy said most of the 2027 capacity has been sold because of AI demand. The two outlets' wording differs, with AI Times saying virtually all sold and Efocus saying mostly sold.
Efocus reported that the amount AWS customers have contracted for but not yet booked as revenue stood at $496 billion as of the end of June. The outlet also reported that the target start date of the Ulsan AI data center overlaps with the sold-out period.
