Key points
- SK Telecom publishes AI governance report
- Company steps up its "AI trust management" push
- Agent management standards and integrated management system established
SK Telecom (CEO Jung Jae-hun) said on the 26th that it has published an "AI Governance Report" laying out AI governance principles, an accountability structure, concrete implementation plans and key results. Boan News and Techworld News reported it as the first such report. SK Telecom plans to use it to strengthen "AI trust management," building trust so that customers and society can use its services with confidence by raising the safety of AI technology.
The outlets emphasized slightly different points. IT Chosun reported that SK Telecom set standards for managing AI agents across their entire lifecycle, from development through operation to retirement, and also strengthened an integrated management system linking privacy protection with AI governance. Boan News noted that the spread of generative AI and AI agents that act on their own judgment has raised concerns about data leaks and privacy violations, and wrote that SK Telecom disclosed an AI management standard that builds security in from planning through disposal. IT Chosun described the managed span as development to retirement, while Boan News described it as planning to disposal.
The report's contents were also described. Tech M reported that it covers AI governance (strategy and decision-making structure), principles, systems, implementation plans and results. Digital Today wrote that it contains a management system and concrete implementation plans for raising the safety and reliability of AI technology, and AI Newspaper (인공지능신문) reported that SK Telecom disclosed a governance framework that manages AI agents, which make their own judgments and carry out tasks, across their entire lifecycle from development through operation to retirement.
Other recent SK Telecom AI news has also continued. Chosun Biz reported that SK Telecom is teaming up with Korean mathematics and AI researchers to improve the reasoning ability of its in-house AI model "A.X K2." The aim is to raise the model's problem-solving ability by taking on difficult math problems, and the development of agentic AI that carries out complex tasks on its own was also mentioned. Chosun Biz also reported, citing Bloomberg, that SK Hyper, SK Telecom's company for AI data center business development, has begun raising funds from global Big Tech companies and investors. It was described as a move to secure data centers totaling 15 gigawatts (GW) in Korea by 2035.
Glossary AI governance is a system that sets the principles, lines of responsibility and management procedures an organization must follow when developing and operating AI. An AI agent is AI that judges for itself and carries out multiple tasks toward a goal without the user instructing it at every step.
