Samsung Electronics Newsroom said the meeting was held for the heads of Samsung Electronics and other major affiliates, with executives from electronics, finance, bio and other affiliates attending. Outlets conveyed his remarks and the mood differently. Kukmin Ilbo quoted Altman in its headline as saying "Using AI alone is not enough," while Betanews introduced the remark "AI alone gives no advantage" in its headline and wrote that Altman gave Samsung executives a "Codex keyboard." Industry News reported, in essence, that the executives practiced with generative AI themselves to improve their understanding of the technology, and that Samsung aims to widen its strategic partnership with OpenAI across semiconductor supply and data center construction.
Samsung's AI transformation plans were also reported. Digital Daily reported that Samsung is continuing cooperation with OpenAI on semiconductors and data centers and aims to provide AI training to all employees by February 2027. iNews24 wrote that, following Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong's visit to OpenAI headquarters last July, the two sides are expanding exchanges, while AI training is being provided from executives down to rank-and-file employees.
Recent developments On the same day, the 31st, Altman also had lunch in Seoul with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won. Chosun Biz and EBN reported, citing business circles, that senior executives of SK hynix and SK Telecom were also said to have attended. Betanews wrote that the two met again in Seoul after one year and that attention is focused on whether follow-up cooperation will come on the HBM supply and AI data center projects agreed last year. Kukmin Ilbo said in a photo caption that the two signed a letter of intent (LOI) for memory supply and a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on AI data center cooperation in the southwestern Seoul area at SK Seorin Building in Seoul on Oct. 1 last year. EBN noted that Altman met Samsung executives and Chairman Chey in succession and focused on whether AI cooperation relationships in Korea are widening.
