DeepX and Doosan Robotics to Co-Develop AI Welding Robot for Nuclear Plant Manufacturing
Key points
- DeepX and Doosan Robotics cooperate on AI welding for nuclear plants
- Selected as a Robot Industry Technology Development Program project
- Aim to ease shortage of skilled welders
DeepX, an AI semiconductor company, and Doosan Robotics will jointly develop an AI-based intelligent welding robot solution to address the shortage of skilled welders at nuclear power plant manufacturing sites. The cooperation, made known on the 6th, follows their selection as a project under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's '2026 Robot Industry Technology Development Program.'
The key is to combine vision AI with collaborative robots to make the welding process intelligent. The approach reported has AI recognizing and correcting the welding target and path, and using vision and thermal imaging data collected during welding.
Doosan Robotics will lead the consortium and design the system integration architecture. Outlets differed in how they wrote the ministry's name, using both the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
