ETRI Unveils Next-Generation Video Compression Technology Built for AI Analysis
Key points
- ETRI develops video compression technology for AI
- Targets self-driving cars, robots, drones and CCTV
- Three media technologies to be shown at KES 2026
Researchers at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) are introducing next-generation video compression technology optimized not for video that people watch but for AI's understanding and analysis of video. It delivers large volumes of video data in less capacity in settings where AI analyzes video directly, such as self-driving cars, robots, drones and intelligent CCTV.
According to iNews24, ETRI will take part in KES 2026 (Korea Electronics Show), held at COEX in Seoul for four days from the 13th, and unveil three core AI-based next-generation media technologies, including 'video coding technology for AI.' The outlet said in its headline that 3D human technology will also be presented.
