The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources, reported that Amazon is discussing acquiring the AI startup Decart for $7 billion. Won conversions differ slightly by outlet: about 9 trillion won (AI Times), 9.34 trillion won (Chosun Biz) and 9.4 trillion won (IT Chosun). Digital Today, citing SiliconANGLE, reported that the deal could be worth up to $7 billion.
AI Times and Digital Today wrote that if talks go smoothly a deal could be reached soon, but they could also collapse or another bidder could emerge. Chosun Biz described Decart as a startup founded in San Francisco in 2023 by three Israeli engineers. IT Chosun interpreted the move as an effort to strengthen Amazon's own semiconductor competitiveness by securing technology that raises the computing efficiency of AI chips, and Digital Today reported in its headline that Anthropic also eyed an acquisition.
