The UK government announced on the 24th, local time, an investment plan of more than 600 million pounds (about 1 trillion won), treating artificial intelligence (AI) as a core foundation of national security and industrial competitiveness. AI Newspaper (인공지능신문) reported that the plan aims to use AI to counter biological threats and cyberattacks while also fostering domestic AI companies, advanced semiconductors and the physical AI industry.
Efocus (이포커스) compared the announcement with Korea's budget. Korea's AI safety and trust budget rises from 5.8 billion won in 2024 to 27.4 billion won in 2027, but that is only about one thirty-ninth of the AI security investment the UK announced on the 24th. Efocus reported that over the same period the AI performance and infrastructure budget grows about 29-fold, from 208.8 billion won to 6.149 trillion won. In its headline, Efocus said the UK is setting up a biosecurity research institute.
