Oct. 12 AI Briefing: ARTEX threat lingers as Korean equipment and materials stocks rally
Key points
- Security risks remain after AI intrusion tool halts development
- Hopes for AI investment lift Korean parts and equipment stocks
- First construction begins for Yongsan AI hub
According to Kukmin Ilbo, public development of ARTEX, a Chinese autonomous AI penetration tool linked to a string of hacks on Korean financial firms, has been halted entirely after the controversy. Recalling copies already distributed or fully blocking their use is practically difficult, so security threats from such AI tools remain.
Chosun Biz reported that Korean stocks in materials, parts and equipment are rising. After makers of chip production parts and equipment, battery materials companies also gained. Analysts attribute the rally to expectations of growing global AI investment while large chip stocks pause.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government said on Oct. 11 that Zone 5, which includes Najin Arcade Buildings 12 and 13, among 11 special planning zones around Yongsan Electronics Market, will begin construction this month. Kukmin Ilbo and Chosun Biz reported it as the first construction step in turning the market into an AI and ICT industrial hub.
In a case shared on GeekNews, a developer used AI agents for about three months to rebuild a first-person shooter in C++. The project restored 99% of all functions, 83% of which matched the original byte for byte. By the end of the first month the game could run and load maps.
