The Seoul Metropolitan Government said on Oct. 11 that Zone 5, home to Najin Arcade Buildings 12 and 13, will begin construction this month. It is one of 11 special planning zones around Yongsan Electronics Market and the first construction project in a plan to turn the area into an industrial hub built around artificial intelligence and ICT.
Kukmin Ilbo described the project as the starting point for Yongsan's ambition to become an "Asian Silicon Valley" based on AI and information and communications technology.
Chosun Biz introduced Yongsan as a symbol of Korea's electronics industry and the birthplace of its PC industry, calling the work a first step toward an advanced industrial base centered on AI and ICT. The two outlets framed the goal differently, but both reported that Zone 5 construction starts this month.
