Asan Medical Center Team Presents New Biomarker and AI Diagnostic Model for Refractory Liver Cancer
Key points
- Identifies new biomarker for refractory liver cancer
- Risk confirmed in patients with RB1 gene loss
- Presents AI pathology imaging diagnosis and combination therapy strategy
A research team at Asan Medical Center in Seoul has identified a new genetic feature that determines the prognosis of refractory liver cancer. The finding is that the risk of disease progression and death rises significantly in patients in whom the tumor suppressor gene RB1 is lost or inactivated on both copies.
The team also presented an artificial intelligence diagnostic model that identifies this from pathology images, along with a targeted combination therapy strategy. Professors from the hospital's gastroenterology and pathology departments, along with researchers from the University of Macau, POSTECH and Hanyang University Guri Hospital, are reported to have taken part.
