HPE Plans to Test AI and Supercomputing Performance on the Moon's Surface
Key points
- HPE Spaceborne Computer-4 planned for lunar surface test
- Supports AI workloads and the first HPC benchmark
- To be carried on Astrolab's FLIP rover
HPE said its Spaceborne Computer-4, a computing module developed for the space environment, plans to support AI workloads and a high-performance computing (HPC) benchmark on the lunar surface. Techworld News and Datanet reported the news.
Techworld News wrote that it will support an HPC benchmark on the Moon's surface for the first time, and Datanet reported that the system will be carried on Astrolab's FLIP rover.
Digital Today explained that the plan is to verify whether computation and data processing can be done directly on site on the Moon, instead of the existing approach of sending data to Earth and analyzing it there. Its headline said the test will verify not only AI but also cybersecurity.
